What is CVSAnalY?
CVSAnalY is a tool that extracts statistical information out of CVS (and recently Subversion) repository logs and transforms it in database SQL formats. It has a web interface - called CVSAnalYweb - where the results can be retrieved and analized in an easy way. CVSAnalY has been released under the terms of the GNU General Public License.
We have been using this tool so far for analyzing large libre software projects like KDE, GNOME or Apache.
We have started to include the analysis of Subversion repositories some time ago, but some features included for CVS are not included yet for Subversion. You can have a look at the Subversion subversion repository analysis if you are interested.
You can get more information about CVSAnalY in the project's page in Tigris
Important! CVSAnalY is now in its beta status. It has been a tool that has been used in a close environment at university for research purposes and we want to release it now to the public in order to let the community take advantage of the information and analyses it provides. Have a look at the in short-time old webpage describing CVSAnalY.
What is CVSAnalY for?
We use CVSAnalY for researching libre software. Libre software offers Software Engineering scientists the possibility not only of having a closer look at the product that is being created, but also of studying in detail the whole development process and its technical, social and economic consequences.
Have a look at our Libre Software Engineering website if you want further information about our research or about other tools we have built.
